Reflections from March 18, 2022—Day 7 of my journey.
Many journeys begin not with a question, but with a why.
For some, the why is clear from the beginning—a deep, driving force that sparks the very first step forward. It’s not something we always have to search for mid-journey. Sometimes, the why finds us before we even realize we’re walking a new path.
That’s how my journey began.
In the wake of losing my son, Maxwell Seraphim, I didn’t stop and ask myself, “Why am I doing this?”—because I already knew. From the very first moment, the reason was clear. The pain, the grief, the fire—it all gave birth to a purpose that became my why.
Max became the reason I chose to rise, the reason I committed to being 1% better every day.
What Is a “Why”?
Your why is more than just a goal or a reason. It’s a purpose so deeply rooted in your soul that once you find it, you never let it go.
It becomes the lens through which you see the world.
It becomes the fire that burns inside you—pushing you forward when you feel like giving up, pulling you out of bed when you’d rather stay under the covers, grounding you when the noise of the world tries to shake your confidence.
How We Find It
Your why can come from many places. For some, it comes through triumph. For others, through loss. But regardless of how it’s found, there’s always one thing in common—it transforms you.
My why came through one of the darkest moments of my life. Losing Max changed everything. It redefined my purpose, my direction, my mission in life.
And while I would give anything to have him here, I know that his impact will never fade. His life—though short—left a legacy in my heart that will fuel me for the rest of my days.
The Fire That Pushes You Forward
Not everyone finds their why. Some people go through life searching for it, never realizing they’ve been standing right next to it the entire time.
But when you do find it, thank God for it. It’s a gift not everyone receives.
And when you find it, hold onto it with everything you’ve got.
Because there will be days when you’re exhausted.
There will be days when people question your path, mock your effort, or fail to understand your drive.
There will be days when comfort calls and the grind feels impossible.
But your why will always carry you.
My Why Is Max
My why has a name—Maxwell Seraphim.
My why is my son.
And I will honor him every single day by striving to be 1% better.
By continuing to grow through what I go through.
By staying committed to the journey, no matter how hard it gets.
Because when you find your why, nothing else matters.
