Reflections from March 17, 2022—Day 6 of my journey.
By this point, the routine had started to settle in. I was beginning to feel… comfortable.
And that’s when the danger set in.
When we feel comfortable, it’s easy to think, “Maybe today can be an off day.” “I’ve earned a break.” “I’ll get back to it tomorrow.”
But here’s the truth—comfort is the enemy of growth.
The Subtle Trap of Comfort
Comfort is quiet. It doesn’t attack you like grief or overwhelm you like fear. It simply whispers, “You’re fine where you are.” And if you’re not careful, it convinces you to stay there. To slow down. To pause. And eventually… to stop.
That’s why, when comfort creeps in, you have to fight back. You have to step out of your comfort zone and double down on your commitment to grow. That’s what defines the 1% better mentality—not just pushing hard on the tough days, but pushing harder when things start to feel easy.
Because true progress doesn’t come when you’re comfortable. It comes when you make a decision to chase discomfort—physically, mentally, and emotionally—for a greater purpose.
The Power of the Mind
The uncomfortable place isn’t just found in sore muscles or tired legs. It lives in the mind.
The mind is where the real battle is won or lost. And when you take control of that space—when you redirect your thoughts toward growth and purpose—you tap into a power you never knew existed.
You stop living by how you feel, and start living by what you believe.
That is where transformation happens.
Comfort Can Come Later
Comfort will come. One day there will be time to rest, to reflect, to enjoy the fruits of the hard days. But not today. Not while the mission is still unfolding.
Because my son Max is still watching.
This is what defines my journey. The journey I’ve chosen to walk every single day to honor him.
It’s not about ease. It’s not about checking a box. It’s about stepping into the uncomfortable so that I can become someone who reflects the love, strength, and legacy of my son—someone he would be proud to call his dad.
So don’t let comfort steal your purpose.
Lean into the discomfort. Embrace the grind. Keep going. One percent better, every single day.
