Reflections from March 16, 2022—Day 5 of my journey.

Just five days in, and already I found myself questioning the grind.

That internal voice—the one we all hear—started whispering: “Maybe just take today off… maybe you can get back to it tomorrow.” And that’s how it starts. One skipped day becomes two. Two become a week. And suddenly, the journey you were so committed to begins to drift off course.

It’s easy to stay the path when motivation is high. But motivation is fleeting—it burns bright and fast, then fizzles out when life gets hard. And it always gets hard.

The Voice That Tests Us

We all have that voice inside us, the one that offers comfort through avoidance. It tells us that no one’s watching, no one will know if we rest today. But here’s the truth: you will know. And every time you put off your goal until tomorrow, tomorrow becomes another tomorrow… and then another.

It is in these moments—when no one is watching, when no one would blame you for giving up—that your why must speak louder than the doubt.

Anchored by Purpose

Friedrich Nietzsche once said, “He who has a why to live can bear almost any how.”

That quote couldn’t ring truer for me.

The pain of losing my son Max is something I carry every day. And it would be easy—understandable even—to let that pain paralyze me. But my why is rooted in him. His life, though brief, carries profound meaning. And it is because of him that I press on.

When motivation fades—and it will—discipline takes over. But not just any discipline. True discipline is born from purpose. From a reason that goes deeper than a passing spark.

Max is my reason. He is my fire.

Keep Showing Up

This journey isn’t about perfection. It’s not about massive leaps forward every day. It’s about consistency. It’s about continuing to show up, even when it’s hard, even when no one is watching, even when every part of you wants to quit.

Because when discipline is rooted in purpose, that’s when real transformation begins.

So if you find yourself questioning the journey—if you hear that voice telling you to wait, to rest, to stop—pause and remember why you started. Double down on your why.

And then keep going.
