Reflections from March 21, 2022 – Day 10 of my journey.
Looking back on this day from three years ago, I’m reminded of something simple but life-altering: the power of knowing your why.
Life has a way of throwing us into situations that forever change how we see the world. For me, that moment was the loss of my son, Maxwell Seraphim, who was born still on December 20, 2021.
That loss broke me. But it also awakened something inside me that I had never known before.
Your Why Doesn’t Always Introduce Itself Loudly
Sometimes your why doesn’t show up in a grand, obvious way. Sometimes it takes time to understand where your purpose is coming from and what it’s calling you to do.
But when your why finally reveals itself, you’ll know. There won’t be a shadow of doubt. It will strike so deep that it becomes part of who you are.
And when that moment comes, cherish it. Let it shape you. Let it strengthen you. Let it guide your steps, even when life gets difficult.
My Why is My Son—And That Changed Everything
For me, the realization of my why—my son Max—came with the understanding that I was, and always will be, a father.
Even in his absence, I became a dad. A father to a son who would forever be looking down over me.
That realization reshaped everything. It lit a fire within me to live in a way that would make him proud. That moment of clarity led me to this path I’m still walking over 1,000 days later—a path where I strive to be 1% better every single day.
Because I know Max is watching.
And I want him to look down from Heaven and see a father who honors him in how he lives.
1% Better: The Path That My Why Built
That 1% better isn’t just about physical fitness. It’s about mental growth, emotional strength, and spiritual clarity.
It’s about being the best version of myself so that my son’s life—though brief—is echoed in how I live mine.
When you commit to becoming better, day by day, it impacts everything around you. Your family. Your community. Your legacy. Your why doesn’t just live in your heart—it shines through your actions.
When Your Why Wakes You Up
“When you know your why, you don’t need an alarm clock—your why wakes you up.”
That was me back then. No external motivation needed. Max was my reason.
Yes, life has changed. Two beautiful children now fill my home with love and chaos. And with that, distractions and exhaustion naturally follow. But this blog, this reflection, reminds me that my why has never left me—and I owe it to him and to myself to continue waking up with that same fire.
Every day is another opportunity to live a life of purpose.
Because when you know your why, you stop living passively.
You begin to live intentionally.
And that changes everything.
